April 7, 2014 Contact: Jesse Broder Van Dyke, 768-6928 Mayor Caldwell travels to Washington D.C. to meet with Obama Administration transportation and housing officials and Members of Congress Washington, D.C. Mayor Kirk Caldwell is in our nation's capital for meetings on the Honolulu rail project with high ranking officials from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration, Congressional leaders from Senate and House transportation committees, and the Hawaii Congressional Delegation. Mayor Caldwell is joined by Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) Executive Director and CEO Dan Grabauskas and the chairs of the HART Board and the Honolulu City Council. Mayor Caldwell is also scheduled to meet with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to discuss homelessness solutions. Mayor Caldwell leaves Honolulu April 4 and returns next Friday afternoon, April 11. Per the city charter, when the mayor leaves the state next is line is the Managing Director then the Budget Director. Managing Director Ember Shinn also has an official trip next week for a meeting of the Urban Land Institute. Managing Director Shinn will be acting mayor Friday, April 4 through Monday afternoon when she leaves Hawaii. Budget Director Nelson Koyanagi will then become acting mayor until Shinn returns Wednesday night. Shinn will then be acting mayor again Wednesday night through Friday afternoon, April 11, when Mayor Caldwell returns. -END- |
