03/24/15 Barbara Yamashita appointed as DCS Deputy Director Tuesday, March 24, 2015 Mayor Caldwell's Press Office: 768-5768   Barbara Yamashita appointed as DCS Deputy Director   Honolulu – Mayor Caldwell today announced his selection of Barbara Yamashita as Deputy Director of the Department of Community Services. “Affordable housing, homelessness, services for the elderly and disadvantaged, are some of the City’s most pressing issues,” said Mayor Caldwell.  “Barbara Yamashita has spent most of her career working on social service issues, and her experience, contacts and expertise will be great assets for the City in moving the needle and making great progress.” Prior to joining the city, Ms. Yamashita served the State of Hawai‘i as Deputy Director of the Department of Human Services, Chief of the Department of Health (DOH) Maternal and Child Health Branch, Chief of the DOH Community Health Division, and was a criminal justice planning specialist for the Office of the Attorney General. Ms. Yamashita lives in ‘Aiea and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology and social work, respectively, at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.  -END-
