CITY TO HOLD KOOLAU POKO SCP COMMUNITY MEETING

The Department of Planning and Permitting will hold a community meeting on the updated Koolau Poko Sustainable Communities Plan (SCP) public review draft.

The meeting is set for 6-8 p.m., Nov. 19, in the Castle High School Cafeteria, 45-386 Kaneohe Bay Drive.  The community is encouraged to attend and submit comments on the draft plan.

The Koolau Poko SCP is one of eight sustainable communities and development plans that provide long-range visions and policies to guide land use and infrastructure decisions for their respective regions.  The Koolau Poko SCP was last revised in 2000 and covers the area from Kualoa to Makapuu Point.

The draft plan reaffirms the vision for the Koolau Poko region, including:

  • Preserving and enhancing natural, cultural, historical, and agricultural resources
  • Maintaining the long-term protection of community resources, residential character, and guiding public improvements that reflect a stable population
  • Protecting landmarks and scenic views
  • Maintaining the Community Growth Boundary
  • Addressing the impacts of climate change and sea level rise
  • Enhancing existing commercial and civic districts
  • Recognizing the ahupuaa concept as a holistic approach to land management
  • Emphasizing alternatives to the private automobile as modes of travel

The draft plan is available for review at http://bit.ly/1tK8h9S.  The deadline to comment on the Koolau Poko SCP public review draft is Feb. 16, 2015. A final version of the plan is expected to be submitted to the Honolulu Planning Commission by the summer of 2015, and the commission will make a recommendation to the City Council.

If you require special assistance, auxiliary aid and/or service to participate in this event (i.e., sign language interpreter, interpreter for language other than English, or wheelchair accessibility), please call 768-8000, or email your request to info@honoluludpp.org at least three business days prior to the event.
