HANAUMA BAY PARTIALLY OPEN DUE TO ONGOING REPAIRS

CITY GOLF COURSES EXPECTED TO OPEN TOMORROW

(Wed., Mar. 7, 2012)—The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve will open tomorrow, but the beach area will remain closed as a safety precaution while City workers continue to repair damage from the recent heavy rains. The upper viewing area and parking lot will be open to the public.

Hanauma Bay was closed today due to hazardous conditions and debris in the bay. However, due to the expanded scope of work needed to restore the beach and adjacent areas, the beach area will remain off limits. Workers will continue to restore and repair areas affected by the excessive amount of water. The entire nature preserve is expected to reopen on Saturday, March 10, 2012.

City golf courses at Ala Wai, Ewa Villages and West Loch remained closed today, but are expected to reopen tomorrow if conditions permit.

For the past few days, City crews with the Department of Facility Maintenance Road Division have been removing debris from roads, storm drains and ditches all over the island including Diamond Head, Punaluu, Kaneohe, Hawaii Kai, and Waianae.
