SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS PLANNED FOR KALAKAUA AVENUE

(Mon., Feb. 28, 2011)—The City will this week begin reconstructing deteriorated sidewalks that have been uplifting along Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki.

The project will begin on the makai side of Kalakaua from Saratoga Road to Lewers Street. Work will then proceed to the mauka side of Kalakaua from Pau Street to Liliuokalani Avenue.

The project will also include improvements to address sidewalk runoff issues; American with Disabilities Act requirements; the replacement of tile pavers with new stone pavers to conform with earlier improvements to Kuhio Beach Park and Kuhio Avenue; and landscape and electrical system improvements.

The City's contractor for the project is Kaikor Construction. The work is expected to be completed by September 30, and to cost $5.5 million.
