Monday, May 19, 2014 Contact: Clark Leavitt, Arborist 971-7151 Removal of Benjamin banyans at Thomas Square Honolulu On Wednesday, May 21, 2014, a tree care company retained by the City and County of Honolulu will begin removal of two mature Benjamin banyan trees in Thomas Square. Municipal arborists from the city's Division of Urban Forestry have determined that these trees warrant removal due to severe infestation of the lobate lac scale. Attempts to remediate the effects of this insect with pesticide and pruning have failed. As a result, these trees warrant removal to prevent large branch or full-tree failure in this heavily used park. The work is projected to be completed by Friday, May 23, 2014, and is not expected to impact traffic on the surrounding streets. -END- |
