Kailua Beach Park boat ramp and parking area to close for sand replenishment project

Kailua – The Department of Parks and Recreation will close portions of Kailua Beach Park this month for a sand replenishment project.

Sand previously dredged to prevent flooding from the mouth of Kaelepulu Stream will be placed near the boat ramp to replenish sand lost to erosion.

The project will require closure of the boat ramp, boat ramp parking lot, and the parking area adjacent to the concession stand comfort station all day Monday, March 10 through Friday, March 14 and again Monday, March 17 through Friday, March 21. The city will re-open these areas for weekend park users.

The city is doing the project now in advance of the summer tradewind erosion cycle.
