MAYOR PROCLAIMS MAY 12 'HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS DAY' IN HONOLULU

(Tues., March 20, 2012)—Mayor Peter Carlisle today proclaimed Saturday, May 12, 2012 as Harlem Globetrotters Day in Honolulu, to honor the world-renowned basketball team that will perform at the City's Neal S. Blaisdell Arena that day—the team's first visit to Hawaii in 20 years.

"Over the past 86 years, the Harlem Globetrotters have entertained and thrilled more than 128 million fans in 120 countries, crossing barriers between cultures, societies and people from all walks of life," Carlisle said. "We're delighted to have them visit Honolulu."

Known for their exciting showmanship, superb athletic skills and wonderful sense of humor, the Harlem Globetrotters have promoted team spirit, loyalty, dedication and healthy recreation to generations of families, Carlisle said.

The team will perform at the Blaisdell Center Arena on May 12 at 2:00 pm and at 7:30 pm.
