Beretania Street construction to continue until December 18 before suspending for holiday season

Honolulu - The Department of Transportation Services has granted permission to a contactor to continue road resurfacing work on Beretania Street through mid-December in order to expedite road improvements before the holidays.

Most road construction on O'ahu city streets is suspended December 9th through the first weekend in January in order to avoid closing lanes to vehicle traffic during the busy holiday season.

The department granted project contractor Road and Highway Builders an exemption to continue construction on Beretania Street during the Holiday Lane Closure Restriction until December 18, 2014.  To expedite construction, Road and Highway Builders will have two crews simultaneously paving on Beretania Street, one between Piikoi and Pensacola streets and the other between Farrington and McCully streets.

The additional week of construction will provide the community with an improved roadway prior to the holidays.

Motorists and bicyclists should be aware that up to two travel lanes on Beretania Street may be closed during this period.  Alternate routes will be available because other road construction projects will be suspended during this time.  The Traffic Management Center will monitor traffic and make traffic signal timing adjustments to keep traffic moving.
