Mayor's Remembrance Walk to be held on Sept. 7

Honolulu - The public is invited to join Mayor Kirk Caldwell and Honolulu's first responders at the Mayor's Remembrance Walk to pay tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.  The walk will be held on Sunday, September 7, beginning at 5 p.m. in front of the Honolulu Police Department Headquarters, 801 South Beretania Street.  Free parking will be available at the Frank F. Fasi municipal parking lot.

The Remembrance Walk opens with a blessing and "Na Lei of Aloha" presentation at the Honolulu Police Department Headquarters.  The walk proceeds to the Honolulu Fire Department Headquarters at Queen Street for lei and bell ringing ceremonies.  Participants include Honolulu's police, fire, emergency services, and emergency management personnel, a color guard unit, and Celtic Pipes and Drums of Hawaii.

The walk culminates with ceremonies at the Eternal Flame in front of Honolulu Hale.  Kumu Ainsley Halemanu will perform oli as the colors are presented.  The Royal Hawaiian Band will perform and the program concludes with the placing of "Na Lei of Aloha" by Mayor Caldwell and dignitaries.
