ENV Responds to Sewer Overflow in Waikiki

HONOLULU The City's Department of Environmental Services responded late this afternoon to a sanitary sewer overflow in Waikiki.

ENV received the call at 3:48 p.m., arrived at the site at 4:34 p.m. and released the blockage at 4:58 p.m.

Grease clogged a sewer pipe at 369 Hobron Lane causing 1,750 gallons of untreated wastewater out a manhole and into a storm drain at 1821 Lepeepee Street that leads to the Ala Wai Canal.  ENV crews were able to recover 300 gallons using a Vactor truck from the storm drain.

ENV crews cleaned, disinfected and deodorized the area.  State Department of Health has been notified.  Warning signs and water sampling will begin Sunday morning.
