KALIHI VALLEY PEOPLE'S OPEN MARKET CELEBRATION

(Thurs., October 4, 2012) –The Department of Parks and Recreation People's Open Market will host a celebration offering affordable fruits and vegetables to customers at Kalihi Valley District Park, 1911 Kam IV Road, on Saturday, October 6, from 9:45-10:45 a.m.

The event highlights the availability and affordability of fresh produce to consumers who use their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Electronic Benefits Transfer cards (SNAP/EBT) at the Kalihi Valley People's Open Market.  Customers using their electronic cards can double their dollars with a $20 maximum at the Kalihi Valley People's Open Market when purchasing fresh local products.  SNAP/EBT cards are part of a national food stamp program that provides consumers with discounted products through participating retailers, including grocery stores and farmers markets.

The celebration includes samples, giveaways, gardening workshop, and sign-ups for SNAP benefits.  To see if you are eligible for SNAP, please go to http://www.snap-step1.usda.gov/fns/ for more information.  A pre-screening tool can be used to determine if are eligible to receive SNAP benefits.
