MAYOR JOINS EWA BEACH CELEBRATION OF NEW PLAY STRUCTURE

(Sat., Sept. 22, 2012)—Mayor Peter Carlisle today joined an Ewa Beach nonprofit group and neighborhood volunteers to celebrate the grand opening of new playground equipment in the Ewa Beach Community Park and recognize the winners of the "Let's Move, Ewa Beach!" Poster Contest.

"We hope everyone will enjoy the park and the new play structure," Carlisle said. "This is great news for the keiki, and great news for Ewa Beach. Mahalo to everyone who made it possible."

The new equipment includes a large climbing structure called an "Explorer Dome," designed for children from 5 to 12 years old, and the first of its kind inHawaii.

The project was financed with a $90,000 grant from the City's Department of Community Services to the Ewa Beach Community Based Development Organization, which worked with numerous volunteers who donated labor, materials, supplies and money to replace an old asphalt and concrete ground surface with a new soft surface.
