WAIKIKI SHELL TO OPEN EARLY FOR THE JULY 1 JASON MRAZ CONCERT

(Thurs., June 28, 2012) – Doors at the Waikiki Shell for the Jason Mraz concert will open at 5 p.m. to allow concert goers to avoid the traffic from Sunset on the Beach and the Celebration Parade. The opening band starts at 6:30 p.m. and the headliner Jason Mraz, is expected to start his performance at 7:30 p.m.

            Concert attendees are reminded that only chair backs are permitted in the Waikiki Shell and no outside food or beverages are allowed. The food court at the Waikiki shell will feature Chinese, Thai, and Hawaiian plates in addition to local favorites. A special gate will be open on the mauka side of the box office for quick entry for paperless ticket holders for the Pool Seating area.

            The Celebration Parade on Kalakaua Avenue from Ft. DeRussy to Kapiolani Park begins at 6 p.m. Kalakaua Avenue will be closed at 5:30 p.m. The Sunset on the Beach event begins at 7 p.m. at Kuhio Beach. Both events have reserved parking lots 1 and 2 near the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. Sections of Monsarrat Avenue will also be closed to traffic and parking.

Monsarrat Avenue will be contraflowed at 5:15 p.m. to allow parking at Kapiolani Park lots 3 and 4 near the Waikiki Shell.  Concert goers are advised to use the Paki Avenue parking lot and street parking in the area. Drivers should anticipate possible traffic delays or use alternate routes and are asked to follow directed traffic signs and provide a safe distance from workers directing traffic.
