RAGS, NEWSPAPERS CAUSE SEWER OVERFLOW

(Tue., June 5, 2012) – The City's Department of Environmental Services responded this morning to a sanitary sewer overflow in Kalihi.

Rags and newspapers clogged an 8-inch sewer pipe causing 1,225 gallons of untreated wastewater out a manhole at 2135 Wilson Street.  The spill entered a storm drain at 2105 Wilson Place that leads to Kalihi Stream.

The call came in at 9:55 a.m. and an ENV crew secured the site at 10:24 a.m.

ENV notified the state Department of Health.  Warning signs and water sampling is underway.  Crews cleaned, disinfected and deodorized the affected area.
