JUNIOR LIFEGUARD PROGRAM APPLICATION DEADLINE MAY 29,

SPACES STILL AVAILABLE

 

(Tue., May 22, 2012) − The Department of Emergency Services Ocean Safety Division and the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association announce that online registration deadline for the summer Junior Lifeguard Program is Tuesday, May 29, 2012.

 

            Enrollment is still available at the four program locations. As of today, there are six spaces at Ala Moana Beach Park, 23 spaces at Kalama Beach Park (Kailua), 58 at Ehukai Beach Park (North Shore), and 91 at Makaha Beach Park (West Oahu).

 

Registration must be completed online at http://www.myjuniorguards.com/ . No mail-in registrations will be accepted.

 

The Junior Lifeguard Program familiarizes teenagers, 13 - 17 years old, with ocean awareness and safety. This is a five-day course, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m., instructed by Ocean Safety Lifeguard Professionals. It will include beach skills, ocean training, surf rescue techniques, physical conditioning, swimming, CPR, first aid, and other related activities. There is a suggested $45 donation for program participation.

 

The program is open to males and females ages 13 – 17. Applicants must have strong swimming skills and a desire to learn about ocean safety. THIS IS NOT A LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM.
