NEW YEAR'S HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

(Wed., December 28, 2011)—City government offices will be closed Monday, January 2, 2012, in observance of the New Year's Day holiday. Some City facilities that are usually open on the weekend will observe the holiday on New Year's Day, Sunday, January 1, 2012.

 

NO CHANGES

  • Emergency ambulance, fire, lifeguard and police services will continue to be available.
  • TheHandi-Van service will operate on its regular schedule.
  • TheBus will operate on its Sunday schedule, with the exception of buses servicing Hanauma Bay and the Arizona Memorial Visitor Center on New Year's Day as the attractions are closed.
  • The Festival of Trees and Candy Lane Gallery on the ground floor of Honolulu Hale are open from
    8 a.m.-11 p.m. daily including New Year's Day and the holiday on Monday, January 2, 2012.

 

OPEN

  • The Honolulu Zoo
  • The Ala Wai, Ted Makalena, and Ewa Villages golf courses will operate on New Year's Day for 18 holes from 7-11 a.m. and 9 holes from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Kahuku Golf Course is open from 7 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • The Kapolei City Lights display at Kapolei Hale can be viewed on weekdays from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. and weekends and holidays from 6-10 p.m. 

 

SUNDAY, JANUARY 1, NEW YEAR'S DAY CLOSURES

  • City convenience centers, transfer stations, H-POWER and the Waimanalo Gulch Landfill.
  • The golf courses at Pali and West Loch
  • The People's Open Markets
  • The Botanical Gardens and Hanauma Bay

 

MONDAY, JANUARY 2, NEW YEAR'S DAY (OBSERVED) CLOSURES

  • All City government offices
  • No refuse collection. Gray cart collection will be made up in the next two days.
  • The People's Open Market at the City Hall parking lot
  • All satellite city halls
  • The Neal Blaisdell box office
  • TheBus will operate on its Sunday schedule.

 

These traffic and parking regulations will be in effect on Monday, January 2:

  • On-street parking will be free, except for the meters on Kalakaua Avenue along Kapiolani Park.
  • Parking will be permitted in tow-away zones where it is allowed on holidays.
  • There will be no coning of commuter traffic lanes.
  • Traffic signals at Kalakaua Avenue and Kapiolani will be three-phase to permit mauka-bound traffic to turn left onto Kapiolani Boulevard.
  • Parking in municipal lots will NOT be free.
