Oahu Outdoor Warning Sirens to be tested today

(Tuesday, October 5, 2010) --- The City Department of Facility Maintenance in conjunction with the Department of Emergency Management will be testing Outdoor Siren Warning Systems in the following areas on Oahu today from 8:30 AM until 1:00 PM.

Nanakuli Beach Park 8:30 AM

Maili Beach Park 8:45 AM to 9:30 AM

Hanauma Bay 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM

Makapu'u Beach Park 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Hauula Beach Park 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM

The tests are being conducted to ensure that these sirens are operating at full power and providing optimal range.

Residents and businesses in the surrounding communities may hear several 20-second siren soundings during the testing periods.

Hawaii State Civil Defense funds the purchase and installation of these sirens.  Once installed they are released to the City for monthly testing and emergency activation.
