MAYOR AND CABINET VOLUNTEER TO 'MAKE A DIFFERENCE'   (Thurs., Oct. 20, 2011)—Mayor Peter Carlisle and members of his Cabinet will join thousands of volunteers this Saturday, October 22, to participate in Make A Difference Day, a national day of helping others.   "This is a wonderful way for the community to come together and show how much we care about Honolulu," Carlisle said.   The Mayor and Cabinet will help clean the shoreline areas from Queen's Surf Beach to Waikiki, starting at 8 a.m.   The City will also supply paint and materials to assist other volunteers. The Kahi'au project, coordinated by the Hawaii Pastors Round Table and various churches, will help spruce up dozens of City parks and the Honolulu Zoo. Volunteers from the Marine Corps and Coast Guard will also pitch in at locations around Kaneohe and Ewa.   Carlisle said he is very grateful to all the participants.   "It is very generous for so many people to set aside time from their busy schedules to help Honolulu shine," Carlisle said.   Make a Difference Day activities are coordinated on the fourth Saturday of every October in many communities across the nation to accomplish a variety of large and small volunteer projects.   -30-   Media contact: Louise Kim McCoy, Mayor's Office, 768-7798.
