02/09/15 City seeks input on future of Blaisdell Center site February 9, 2015 Contact: Curtis Lum, Public Information Officer, Department of Planning and Permitting, 768-8284.City seeks input on future of Blaisdell Center site Mayor Kirk Caldwell and the Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) will host a public workshop and seek community input Feb. 10, 2015, to help develop a master plan for the revitalization of the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. The workshop is set for 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Blaisdell Center Hawaii Suites, 777 Ward Ave. Parking will be free and light refreshments will be provided. The city is creating a master plan because most of the facilities at the 22-acre Blaisdell site were built in 1964 and are facing increasing maintenance and renovation needs. The facilities often do not meet the needs of users, and they face competition from newer facilities. The city recently selected a consultant team that includes AECOM, WCIT Architecture, and Lincoln Center Global of New York to help craft a vision for a self-sustaining cultural and entertainment complex at the Blaisdell site. The Feb. 10 workshop will be the first of many opportunities for community input to determine the future of the Blaisdell Center. “The most important aspect of this process is public participation and input because the people will ultimately determine the success of this valuable community and civic resource,” Mayor Caldwell said.
