October 10, 2014 Traffic Advisory: Lane closures for Honolulu rail transit project The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) would like to inform drivers about lane closures next week related to design and construction work for the Honolulu rail transit project. Motorists are advised that work along the 20-mile rail route from East Kapolei to Ala Moana Center will require lane closures during non-peak traffic hours. For the safety of both the work crews and motorists, the public is advised to proceed with caution through these areas. Drivers should anticipate possible traffic delays or use alternate routes during work hours, and provide a safe distance between their vehicles and workers and equipment. EWA (FARRINGTON HIGHWAY) Monday, October 13 to Friday, October 17 Kualakai Parkway (North-South Road) to Old Fort Weaver Road. Farrington Highway from Kualakai Parkway (North-South Road) in Kapolei to Old Fort Weaver Road near Waipahu is closed for four months until the end of January 2015. During the initial part of the four-month closure, contractor Kiewit will keep the eastbound direction of Farrington Highway open weekdays between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. The contractor has also restored the left-turn lane from Farrington Highway onto Kunia Road heading northbound to assist motorists with the morning drive. Those attending the Aloun Farms pumpkin patch events over the next three weekends will be able to enter Farrington Highway from Kualakai Parkway. The road closure will allow work crews to safely relocate major utility lines and build columns along a narrow two-lane stretch of Farrington Highway, just west of the Kahi Mohala Behavioral Center. Monday, October 13 to Friday, October 17 Near the Fort Weaver Road Overpass Left turns from Farrington Highway in Ewa onto Kunia Road heading northbound have been restored. H-1 FREEWAY WAIAWA INTERCHANGE Sunday, October 12 to Thursday, October 16 H-1/H-2 Freeways near Leeward Community College Two southbound lanes of the H-2 Freeway approaching the Waiawa Interchange (H-1/H-2 merge) will be closed overnight between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. WAIPAHU (FARRINGTON HIGHWAY) Monday, October 13 to Friday, October 17 Leoku Street to Leokane Street One of the two eastbound left-turn lanes from Farrington Highway onto Leoku Street will be closed 24/7 until the end of the year. The westbound lanes of Farrington Highway will be closed overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Aniani Place to Waipahu Depot Road The westbound lanes of Farrington Highway will be closed overnight between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Waipahu Depot Road to Mokuola Street The inside lanes of Farrington Highway will be closed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Paiwa Street to Kahualii Street Traffic starting next week will be contraflowed along Farrington Highway as part of rail construction. One westbound lane of Farrington Highway will be closed from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. One eastbound lane of Farrington Highway will be closed from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Drivers may be diverted to the other side of the road during those times.
