October 17, 2014   Traffic Advisory: Lane closures for Honolulu rail transit project   The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) would like to inform drivers about lane closures next week related to design and construction work for the Honolulu rail transit project. Motorists are advised that work along the 20-mile rail route from East Kapolei to Ala Moana Center will require lane closures during non-peak traffic hours.   For the safety of both the work crews and motorists, the public is advised to proceed with caution through these areas. Drivers should anticipate possible traffic delays or use alternate routes during work hours, and provide a safe distance between their vehicles and workers and equipment.   All lane closures scheduled for next week are subject to change and may be postponed because of the approaching storm. HART will provide updates on any schedule changes or cancellations.   EWA (FARRINGTON HIGHWAY)   Monday, October 20 to Friday, October 24 Kualakai Parkway (North-South Road) to Old Fort Weaver Road. Farrington Highway from Kualakai Parkway (North-South Road) in Kapolei to Old Fort Weaver Road near Waipahu is closed for four months until the end of January 2015.   During the initial part of the four-month closure, contractor Kiewit will keep the eastbound direction of Farrington Highway open between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. Those attending the weekend Aloun Farms pumpkin patch events in October will be able to enter Farrington Highway from Kualakai Parkway.   The contractor has also restored the left-turn lane from Farrington Highway onto Kunia Road heading northbound to assist motorists with the morning drive.   H-1 FREEWAY WAIAWA INTERCHANGE   Sunday, October 19 to Thursday, October 23 H-1/H-2 Freeways near Leeward Community College Two southbound lanes of the H-2 Freeway approaching the Waiawa Interchange (H-1/H-2 merge) will be closed overnight between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.   WAIPAHU (FARRINGTON HIGHWAY)   Monday, October 20 to Friday, October 24 Leoku Street to Leokane Street One of the two eastbound left-turn lanes from Farrington Highway onto Leoku Street will be closed 24/7 until the end of the year. The eastbound lanes of Farrington Highway will be closed overnight from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.   Waikele Road to Aniani Place The eastbound lanes of Farrington Highway will be closed overnight between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.   Paiwa Street to Kahualii Street Traffic will be contraflowed along Farrington Highway as part of rail construction (see map below). One eastbound lane of Farrington Highway will be closed from 1 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. One westbound lane of Farrington Highway will be closed between 5:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Drivers may be diverted to the other side of the road during those times. Westbound left turns from Farrington Highway onto Paiwa Street will be restricted during construction Eastbound left turns from Farrington Highway onto Kahualii Street will be restricted during construction   Kahualii Street to the Kamehameha Highway overpass The westbound lanes of Farrington Highway near the Kamehameha Highway overpass will be closed weeknights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.   PEARL CITY (KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY)   Monday, October 20 to Friday, October 24 Various sections along the outside lanes of Kamehameha Highway in Pearl City and Aiea in both directions will be closed for overhead utility work between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.   Waiawa Road to Waimano Home Road Two westbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway will be closed overnight between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. for utility relocation work. Two eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway will be closed overnight between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The intersection at Waimano Home Road is closed after 9 p.m. One eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway near Home Depot will be closed 24/7 through October. The eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway between Waihona Street and the merge at Farrington Highway/Kamehameha Highway will be closed weeknights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.   Puu Poni Street to Kaonohi Street Two westbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway will be closed overnight between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. for utility relocation work. Two eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway will be closed overnight between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. The intersections at Puu Poni Street and Kaonohi Street will be closed after 9 p.m. on weeknights. Drivers heading westbound along Kamehameha Highway will be contraflowed to the eastbound side of the highway weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. One eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway near Kuleana Road (HECO-Waiau power plant) fronting Neal Blaisdell Park will also be closed 24/7. Left turns at Kuleana Road will also be restricted. Left turns will be restricted from Kamehameha Highway heading eastbound onto Kaonohi Street weeknights between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.   AIEA/ALOHA STADIUM (KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY)   Monday, October 20 to Friday, October 24 Lipoa Place to Pali Momi Street One eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway near the Pearl Kai Shopping Center will be closed 24/7   Pali Momi Street to Honomanu Street Eastbound drivers along Kamehameha Highway in the area will be contraflowed to the westbound side of the highway on weeknights between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Area utility work will run until the end of the year. The eastbound Moanalua Freeway on-ramp near McGrew Point will be closed weeknights between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for utility relocation work Two westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway will be closed from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. with various left-turn pocket restrictions.   Near Aloha Stadium Right eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway from the Moanalua Freeway on-ramp to Salt Lake Boulevard will be closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Eastbound drivers along Kamehameha Highway will be contraflowed to the westbound side of the highway on weeknights between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.   DOWNTOWN HONOLULU/KAKAAKO   Sunday, October 19 to Thursday, October 23 Lane closures will take place overnight at the following location between 8:30 p.m. and 4 a.m. for sewer line repair: Inside lanes of Nimitz Highway in both directions from Bishop Street to Richards Street   Lane closures will take place overnight at the following location between 7:30 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. for sewer line repair: Westbound lane of Queen Street will be closed from Fort Street to Nimitz Highway   For updates on work days and times, visit the project website at www.honolulutransit.org or contact our hotline at 566-2299.   -END-   Media Contact: Scott Ishikawa.
