Sunday, October 19, 2014 Media Contact: Markus Owens, ENV PIO, (808) 351-6305 Wet Weather Causes SSO at Sand Island WWTP HONOLULU The City's Department of Environmental Services reported a 5,000-gallon sanitary sewer overflow from its Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) this afternoon. Heavy rains and flows surcharged a manhole connected to a primary clarifier odor control system sending 5,000 gallons of partially treated wastewater into a storm drain, which drains into Honolulu Harbor. The state Department of Health was notified and waived water sampling due to the weather. Signing will begin in the morning. -30- |
