ROYAL HAWAIIAN BAND CELEBRATES 175 YEARS   (Thurs., Nov. 10, 2011)---Join the Royal Hawaiian Band's 175th birthday celebration and musical concert at the Farrington High School Auditorium on Tuesday, November 22, at 7 p.m. The special performance, entitled "E mau aku ana ki­ kakou ho'oilina," Our Legacy Lives On, showcases the vital role the band has played in Hawaii¡¯s history as it looks toward the future.               The spectacular musical and multimedia experience will feature award-winning artists Raiatea Helm, Nina Keali'iwahamana, Karen Keawehawai'i, and Misty Kela'i.  The Kamehameha Schools Children's Chorus, and former bandmasters Aaron Mahi and Michael Nakasone, join bandmaster Clarke Bright in this historical tribute to the "King's Band."               The Royal Hawaiian Band, Hawaii's unique and cherished island treasure, and the only full-time band in the United States with a royal legacy that dates back to 1836, was founded by King Kamehameha III.  It performs more than 300 concerts and parades each year, and has traveled to Japan, Canada, Europe, and various parts of the continental United States, making a historic stop at Carnegie Hall in the summer of 1988.               Hawaii residents and visitors are privileged to hear this excellent ensemble at city, state, and military functions; and schools, community centers, shopping malls, retirement communities, graduations, and private events throughout the year.                The concert is presented by the Royal Hawaiian Band Music Society and the Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band.  For ticket information, call 1-800-838-3006, or log onto www.brownpapertickets.com.                                                                             -30-
