HONOLULU RANKED THIRD BEST U.S. CITY (Wed., Sept. 21, 2011)Mayor Peter Carlisle said he is pleased to hear that Honolulu has been ranked by Businessweek.com as the third best city in America for its overall quality of life. "We all know Honolulu is a fantastic place, and it's great to have that recognized by an organization that has compared our quality of life with that of other great cities," Carlisle said. Businessweek.com wrote that, "From the prominent slopes of Diamond Head to the white beaches of Waikiki, Honolulu is a beautiful place to live and play. The area has done well through the recession, with extremely low unemployment and a low level of foreclosures." Honolulu's air quality and surfing opportunities were also cited as contributing factors. Raleigh, North Carolina was named the Best City in America, while Arlington, Virginia was ranked second.
