TRAFFIC ADVISORY: SCHOOL STREET AND NUUANU AVENUE (Wed., March 23, 2011) City crews from the Department of Design and Construction will continue emergency repair work tonight after a sink hole on Monday created an opening in the road on School Street near Nuuanu Avenue. On Tuesday night, crews removed debris and a large boulder, as a result of the cave in, and will remove more debris tonight. The sink hole did not break a 15-inch wastewater pipe but it damaged an adjacent manhole. School Street will be closed from Nuuanu Avenue to Aala Street from 8:00 tonight till 5:00 Thursday morning during which time no right or left turns will be allowed from Nuuanu Avenue on to School Street. Starting at 5:00 Thursday morning, one westbound lane will be opened on School Street in the affected area. Message boards will be placed at School/Nuuanu and Vineyard Boulevard advising motorists to detour to Vineyard Boulevard and use Aala Street to access the H-1 westbound ramp. Work is projected to last into the middle of next week. -30- Contact: Collins Lam, Director, Department of Design & Construction 768-8480 |
