EXHIBIT CELEBRATES 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE HAWAIIAN ROOM

(Thu., August 16, 2012) — An exhibition of photographs, news clippings, and oral histories of Hawaii's entertainers who performed at the Hotel Lexington's Hawaiian Room will be on display from August 27 through September 21, 2012, on the third floor of Honolulu Hale. The Hawaiian Room, Dine, Dance, Romance, The Lexington is presented by the Hula Preservation Society and Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the glamorous night club.

The Hawaiian Room was the center of Hawaiian music and dance in New York City from 1937 to 1950. The night club's popularity stemmed from America's fascination with everything Hawaiian. The night club showcased top-flight Hawaiian entertainment along with a "South Seas" menu and cocktails.

The Hula Preservation Society preserves and perpetuates the art of hula by documenting the lives and contributions of kupuna and through its educational projects and programs.
