CITY ANNOUNCES THE 2012 MAYOR'S CUP GOLF TOURNAMENT (Fri., August 24, 2012) − After a successful, sold-out revival of the Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament last year, the City and County of Honolulu has partnered once again with the Hawaii State Golf Association (HSGA) to host the 2012 Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament on September 8 - 9, at the Ala Wai Golf Course. The deadline to register is Wednesday, August 29, 2012, and is limited to the first 200 golfers. Visit http://www.hawaiistategolf.org/ to register. The tournament is open to amateur golfers who are HSGA members with an active GHIN (Golf Handicap Index Number) handicap. There are five flights and the B- Flight has been filled. The tournament fee is $140 per golfer, which includes green and cart fees for both rounds, lunch for both days and the Monday awards banquet. "We are pleased to offer Hawaii's amateur golfers the opportunity to competitively showcase their skills at one of the most heavily played golf courses in the world," said Randy Leong, deputy director of the Department of Enterprise Services. "We are extremely grateful that the presenting sponsors Kyo-ya and Starwood Hotels have once again stepped up to offer attractive prizes." Other event sponsors include RM Towill, Aloha Pacific Federal Union, Ward Centers, HT7T Truck Center, B Hayman, Pro Am Golf and Roger Dunn Golf. Competing in the Mayor's Cup puts golfers on track for major tournaments. Amateur golfers who play in the Championship flight vie for a chance to accrue points for the John A. Burns Challenge Cup, which leads to an opportunity to play in the Sony Open. Last year's winner was former Moanalua High School golfer Seungjae Maeng who is currently on the University of the Pacific golf team. - 30 - Contact: Hawaii State Golf Association at 589-2909.
