BROTHER NOLAND AND MIKE KAAWA TO HIGHLIGHT OCEAN MONTH (Wed., June 6, 2012)Local recording artists Brother Noland and Mike Kaawa will perform at the opening of Ka 'ike o ka Moana: The Knowledge of the Ocean exhibit, on June 14, at 5 p.m. at Honolulu Hale. The ocean-themed exhibit will feature educational displays and art in celebration of National Ocean Month. The Waikiki Aquarium and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are providing educational displays and art work by Sunday Drawing in Manoa and the On June 1, 2012, President Obama proclaimed June as National Ocean Month to highlight the importance of healthy oceans to all Americans. Brother Noland, an innovative and influential musician, is deeply involved in preserving Hawaiian culture and stewardship of our natural environment. He works with at-risk children and his music spreads a positive message to all. Ki ho'alu master Mike Kaawa, has worked with prominent artists and groups over his four decades as a performer. His playing and singing style expresses his dedication to Hawaiian culture. Ka 'ike o ka Moana: The Knowledge of the Ocean is presented by the Mayor's Office of Culture and the Arts with support from the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
