HPD & Leeward Residents Launch Holiday Traffic Safety Campaign

The Honolulu Police Department (HPD) and Leeward Oahu residents will kick off the annual Live and Let Live (also known as Drive Safe 4 Ewa) traffic safety campaign with sign waving at the Kapolei Police Station, 1100 Kamokila Boulevard on Saturday, December 3, from 8 to 11 a.m.

The campaign's goal is to promote safe driving during the holiday season.  Throughout the month of December, the HPD will partner with community groups, including neighborhood security watches; Waianae, Nanakuli, Kapolei, and Campbell High Schools; Waianae Military Civilian Advisory Council; Waianae Lions Club; the Ewa Beach Boys and Girls Club; and Ewa Beach Weed and Seed Program to educate and encourage motorists to drive safely.

For more than 26 years the HPD has been working with the Leeward community to help reduce traffic fatalities, deter speeding, and decrease impaired and distracted driving during the holiday season.  Live and Let Live was started in the 1980s when concerned residents came together to take a proactive approach to reducing holiday traffic fatalities on the Leeward Coast.  The couple who initially helped to start the program continues to participate every year.
