LANDFILL CLOSED SATURDAY, SUNDAY, APRIL 9-10   (Thur, April 7, 2011) – The City's Department of Environmental Services (ENV) will close Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill to all public and private vehicles Saturday, April 9, and Sunday, April 10.               From Friday, April 8 through Sunday, April 10, Convenience centers will receive only green waste and recyclable items (white goods, propane tanks, tires and automobile batteries). Combustible and non-combustible refuse will not be accepted.               Transfer Stations will continue normal operating schedules. Commercial loads will not be accepted.               H-POWER has intermittently experienced maintenance shutdowns for the past few weeks that consumed much of the approved portions of the landfill. The landfill contractor is extending the West Berm to allow for additional landfill capacity.               Landfill construction and repair work following the January 13 storm event is continuing. Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill will reopen to all vehicles Monday, April 11.             H-POWER is also expected to reopen to all vehicles on Monday, April 11.     -30-     Contact:  Markus Owens, ENV Public Communications Officer, 768-3454
