STATEMENT FROM MAYOR PETER CARLISLE  "I want to emphasize that the City and County of Honolulu has not received any indication that Hawaii will be impacted by harmful radiation from the nuclear plants in Japan.   "Hawaii is safe and we encourage anyone planning to visit to please come and enjoy the islands.  Our Emergency Services Department and the Department of Emergency Management have been working closely with state and federal agencies to monitor the situation in Japan.   "We have the appropriate equipment to detect environmental radiation and the readings have been normal.  We will continue to work with the other agencies to ensure our island home remains safe and protected."
