December 17, 2014 Mayor Caldwell's Press Office: 768-5768 (cell 489-0341) Mayor Caldwell proclaims "Michelle Wie Day" HONOLULU Mayor Kirk Caldwell and 2014 U.S. Women's Open champion Michelle Wie were joined by junior golfers and community members at the Ala Wai Golf Course where Mayor Caldwell presented Wie with the official key to the City and County of Honolulu and proclaimed Friday, December 12, 2014 to be "Michelle Wie Day." "Michelle Wie is a role model, a source of inspiration for O'ahu's junior golfers, and a tremendous source of pride to the people of the City and County of Honolulu," said Mayor Caldwell. "Michelle's victories this year, first at home at the LPGA Lotte Championship at Ko Olina, then taking the 2014 U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst No. 2, were wins for us all. We've been tracking Michelle's career from the days she was a young golf prodigy qualifying for the Public Links Championship on this very course at Ala Wai at the age of ten and we couldn't be more proud of her accomplishments." The official key to the city given to Michelle Wie was the first time Caldwell has bestowed the honor upon anyone since becoming Mayor of Honolulu nearly two years ago.
