Friday, August 8, 2014 Media Contact: Markus Owens, ENV PIO, (808) 351-6305 UV DISINFECTION DOWN 17 MINUTES AT WAHIAWA WWTP HONOLULU The city's Department of Environmental Services responded this afternoon to a discharge of approximately 10,500 gallons of undisinfected tertiary treated effluent from the Wahiawa Wastewater Treatment Plant outfall into Wahiawa Reservoir. The incident was reported by SCADA at 2:10 p.m., causing the Ultra Violet (UV) Disinfection unit to cut off for 17 minutes until HECO power was restored. ENV notified the Hawaii Department of Health who waived water sampling. Warning signs will go up along the reservoir at daybreak. -END- |
