FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friday, June 20, 2014 Media Contact: Markus Owens, ENV PIO, 768-3454 SEWER SERVICE CHARGES INCREASE JULY 1Currently, a single family or duplex dwelling pays a $65.76 monthly base fee along with a usage charge of $3.93 per 1,000 gallons. There is a 20 percent irrigation credit per household that goes to watering yards, plants, washing cars and other water uses that do not enter the sewer system. Starting July 1, those charges increase by 4 percent for fiscal year 2015 to $68.39 and $4.08, respectively. "The increases are necessary for capital improvements, debt service repayment, upgrading the workforce and infrastructure, along with complying with the 2010 Consent Decree," said Lori Kahikina, director of the Department of Environmental Services. "Sewer fees collected will only go towards sewer-related expenses and projects." The fees improve the City's ability to meet current requirements as well as terms of the consent decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, which the City agreed to make major improvements over a 25-year time span. -30- |
