CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU TAKES ON NATIONAL WATER CONSERVATION CHALLENGE             HONOLULU – Mayor Peter Carlisle today announced the City and County of Honolulu's participation in the Wyland National Mayor's Challenge, a national program committed to improving the environment by using friendly competition to engage citizens' conservation efforts in various municipalities. "I encourage all Oahu residents to pledge to reduce their water and energy use at home," said Mayor Carlisle. "This challenge, which runs from March 30 to April 30, 2012, is an exciting opportunity to enhance Oahu's eco-friendly reputation as we compete against other cities across the nation to create a more sustainable environment." Residents can take the Clean Water Pledge at www.mywaterpledge.com and showcase their commitment to conserving water, saving energy, and reducing pollution.  Participants will be eligible hundreds of prizes, including a Toyota Prius, WaterPik Eco-Flow Showerheads, Rainbird home watering kits, and more. "This challenge will help demonstrate the collective impact of each person's water-reducing efforts," said Board of Water Supply Manager and Chief Engineer Ernest Lau.  "The real prize of this contest is the public awareness it will generate about the importance of water conservation."             The Mayor's Challenge for Water Conservation is a non-profit competition founded by The Wyland Foundation.  For tips on how to conserve as part of the Mayor's Challenge to Save Water, please visit the Board of Water Supply's website at www.boardofwatersupply.com.
