| HONOLULU FIRE DEPARTMENT ADDS NEW FIRE COMPANY (Mon., January 23)—The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) has placed a new engine company in service. Engine 43 will respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and be housed in two portable trailers at the East Kapolei Fire Station's construction site while the new fire station is being built. "Placing Engine 43 in service is the first phase in providing additional services for the fast growing East Kapolei area," said Fire Chief Kenneth Silva. "As construction progresses and logistics allow, we will add more resources and conduct additional activities to benefit the community," said Silva. The East Kapolei Fire Station is the HFD's first regional fire station. It is being built on a two-acre site leased from the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands; will house an engine and a ladder company; and feature a regional emergency depot, a four-story training tower, and a regional tactical training ground. The station is located on Kinoiki Street between Kapolei Parkway and Kamokuiki Street. Ordinarily, HFD fire stations are open for blood pressure screening and fire education visits and to report emergencies. However, walk-in services will be limited while Engine 43 is housed in the portable trailers due to safety concerns. "We want the public to know that we're in their community; however, we ask that they refrain from visiting the East Kapolei Fire Station until construction is complete.
