REGULAR BULKY WASTE SCHEDULE RESUMES TOMORROW

(Tues., Feb. 1, 2011) – The City's Department of Environmental Services (ENV) will resume its normal monthly bulky item collection starting tomorrow, February 2, in sectors scheduled to be served on the First Wednesday of the month.  Regular bulky waste service in other areas will also resume as scheduled.

The following areas are scheduled for First Wednesday of the month service and will be serviced tomorrow:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 2:  Alewa Heights, Puunui, Kalihi, Kalihi Valley and Kamehameha Heights. Includes areas that are mauka of North King St., between Middle St. and Liliha St.; ewa of Waolani Ave. and makai of Wyllie St.  Ewa Gentry (west of Ft. Weaver Rd. and north of Iroquois Point Rd.), Ocean Pointe, Ewa, West Loch and Honouliuli.  Kaneohe (makai of Kahikili Highway, and south of Heeia Kea Pier) including Kapunahala and north of Kaneohe Stream.

Bulky item collection was temporarily suspended during the time the municipal landfill was closed for repairs following severe storms earlier in the month.  From January 29 through 31, City crews worked overtime to remove bulky waste from certain locations on Oahu where excess bulky waste had accumulated.  Over these three days, a total of 24 truckloads, at approximately five (5) tons per truckload, were cleared from city sidewalks.

As the City returns to its normal bulky item collection schedule, it has concluded servicing communities that were missed.  Affected residents are asked to store items on their property until their next scheduled pickup.

To assist City crews, please place the accepted items curbside no earlier than the evening before or by 6 a.m. the day of the regularly scheduled pickup.  Items should not block sidewalks, driveways or roadways.  Items will be collected over a 3-4 day period.
