ACTING MAYOR TO LEAD REMEMBRANCE WALK FOR NINTH ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11 ATTACKS   Acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell invites the public to participate in the fifth annual Mayor's Remembrance Walk on Saturday, September 11, in observance of the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States.   Acting Mayor Kirk Caldwell said, "The tragic events on 9/11 clearly reminded us that freedom is not a privilege, rather it is our responsibility to band together as a nation and continually strive to maintain what we cherish and hold dear to our hearts.  As we approach the ninth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country, this walk is an occasion for Honolulu to remember the lives that were lost or shattered, and recognize the first-responders who uphold the safety of our communities and members of the armed forces who serve as guardians of our freedom."   The public is invited to participate.  Marchers should gather at the entrance of the Honolulu Police Department headquarters, 801 South Beretania Street, by 5:30 p.m.   The walk will be led by the Celtic Pipes and Drums of Hawaii and includes brief ceremonies and wreath presentations beginning at the Honolulu Police Department.  Marchers will then proceed makai on Alapai to the Honolulu Fire Department, at South and Queen streets, for a second ceremony.  The procession will then move makai to Halekauwila Street and then mauka on Punchbowl Street to Honolulu Hale for a formal ceremony.             The program at Honolulu Hale will take place at the eternal flame on the front lawn.  The service will include wreath-laying and recognition of the Honolulu Emergency Services Department and Department of Emergency Management.  There will be music by John Valentine and Rocky Brown and the Royal Hawaiian Band and a display of fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles from the police, fire and emergency service agencies.  Television newscaster Tannya Joaquin will serve as mistress of ceremonies.               Participants are encouraged to bring flashlights.  Parking will be available at the Civic Center parking structure; enter from South Beretania Street.               The Mayor's Remembrance Walk grew out of a call for freedom walks nationwide to observe the anniversary of the September 11 attacks. -30-
