Neighborhood Board selects Everyone Counts, Inc. To Provide New Voting Technology   (Tue, Apr. 26, 2011) – The City and County of Honolulu has selected Everyone Counts, Inc., a world leader in transparent, secure, and accessible elections for all voters, to deliver internet and telephone voting solutions for the 2011 Neighborhood Board Elections. This year's election will build upon the success of the 2009 election, which introduced the nation's first all-digital election.               The City is working with Everyone Counts, Inc. to create and distribute individual passcodes to voters via mail. Voters will be mailed a secure passcode around May 2, 2011.  The election will open May 2 at 12 a.m. and will remain accessible until May 20 at 11:59 p.m. (HST).   The digital ballot can be accessed through the Neighborhood Commission's website at www.honolulu.gov/nco.                Voters without internet access have additional options to cast their ballots.  There will be two voting sites with online access Mondays through Thursdays during the election from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   ·        Kapolei Hale Conference Room D, 1000 Ulu'ohi'a Street, Kapolei, HI 96707 ·        Honolulu Hale Courtyard, 530 South King Street, Honolulu, HI 96813             Voters must bring their passcodes with them to the voting site.  As an option, voters may elect to vote via telephone, by calling toll-free, 888-907-6717.  Using either the online or telephone method, voters will need their passcode and the last four digits of their social security number to vote.  The online and telephone channels work together and only allow one vote per eligible voter.                  The new digital process offers all voters convenient, greater access to ballots.  Through the use of military-grade encryption technology, votes are securely cast and counted.  The new method will also save taxpayers and voters more money, according to Lori Steele, Chairman and CEO of Everyone Counts, Inc.               The Neighborhood Commission is hosting an Election Kick-off open to the public on Monday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the Mayor's Conference Room (# 301) in Honolulu Hale, 530 South King Street.  Voters, candidates, and stakeholders who wish to learn more about the election process and participate in the "get out the votes" effort are encouraged to attend.                  For more information contact Bryan Mick, Honolulu Neighborhood Commission, (808)768-3717, or Renee Holiday, Everyone Counts, Inc., (858) 427-4677.         -30-       Media contact:  Bryan Mick, Honolulu Neighborhood Commission, (808) 768-3717,Renee Holiday, Everyone Counts, Inc., (858) 427-4677

LANE CLOSURE ON KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY (HALEIWA) OPPOSITE THE HALEIWA SHOPPING PLAZA   (Wed, April 27, 2011) One lane on Kamehameha Hwy will be closed 24-hours, five consecutive days starting Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6, 2011 due to roadway construction work.  This project is constructing a concrete bus pad on Kamehameha Highway directly across from the Haleiwa Shopping Plaza and next to Malama Market Haleiwa.   Kamehameha Highway traffic lanes will be temporarily contra-flowed during the construction.  Motorists are advised to use caution in this area.  Police officers will be at both ends of the construction zone (24 hours) to direct the one lane contra-flow traffic.    During the closure, motorists are encouraged to avoid Kamehameha Highway if possible.  Through traffic normally using Kamehameha Highway are encouraged to take alternative routes.  The Haleiwa Bypass Road (Joseph P. Leong Highway) is a suggested alternative.    Bus patrons normally using the Kamehameha Hwy bus stop (north-bound) next to the Malama Market Haleiwa are asked to use the bus stop located further north on Kamehameha Highway adjacent to the Ace Hardware store. TRAFFIC ADVISORY: ROAD MAINTENANCE ON NUUANU PALI DRIVE   (Fri., April 15, 2011)— The City Department of Facility Maintenance's Road Division will perform work in the Nuuanu Pali Drive area to address vegetation overgrowth, low-hanging branches and drainage concerns.               The area from Old Pali Road to Pali Highway (mauka connection) will be closed Monday, April 18, through Thursday, April 21, from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. or until all work is completed.  Special duty police officers will assist with traffic control.    Motorists are urged to use caution in this area during the road maintenance period.   -30-   Media contact: Tyler Sugihara, DFM Road Maintenance Division, 768-3600

WGSL BACK TO NORMAL OPERATIONS   (Wed., April 13, 2011) – The Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill (WGSL) and all City refuse facilities are open to the public and back to normal operations.               All six convenience centers – Ewa, Laie, Wahiawa, Waianae, Waimanalo and Waipahu – along with the Kapaa, Kawailoa and Keehi transfer stations have lifted all previous restrictions while the landfill was unavailable.               Waste Management Hawaii, who operates and maintains the landfill for the City, received both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and state Department of Health approvals after completing repairs.               The landfill experienced three major rainstorm events from Dec. 19, 2010, through Jan. 13, 2011.
