Honolulu Hale to change color in support of autism awareness

 

Honolulu – Honolulu Hale will be lit in the color blue at sunset tonight, Thursday, April 2, in support of World Autism Awareness Day.

Honolulu Hale will join with thousands of other iconic landmarks, religious institutions, businesses, and communities in more than 130 countries around the world, shining blue lights to help raise awareness of autism.  Autism is currently estimated to affect 1 in 68 children in the United States.

Mayor Kirk Caldwell approved the blue lighting.  Honolulu Hale will remain lit in blue until sunrise tomorrow, Friday, April 3.

Traffic Advisory: Lane closures for Honolulu rail transit project



The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) would like to inform drivers about lane closures between April 5-10 as related to design and construction work for the Honolulu rail transit project. Motorists are advised that work along the 20-mile rail route from East Kapolei to Ala Moana Center will require lane closures during non-peak traffic hours.

For the safety of both the work crews and motorists, the public is advised to proceed with caution through these areas. Drivers should anticipate possible traffic delays or use alternate routes during work hours, and provide a safe distance between their vehicles and workers and equipment:


EAST KAPOLEI/EWA (FARRINGTON HIGHWAY)

Seven days a week through April 2015
Kualakai Parkway (North-South Road) to Old Fort Weaver Road
Farrington Highway between Kualakai Parkway (North-South Road) and Old Fort Weaver Road Loop will be closed weeknights between 7:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. Westbound lanes are closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week through end of April 2015.
During the weeknight highway closure, drivers traveling between East Kapolei and the Ewa/Waipahu region will still be able to access either end by using the H-1 Freeway or Kapolei Parkway/Geiger Road.


H-1 FREEWAY WAIAWA INTERCHANGE

Sunday through Thursday between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m.
H-1/H-2 Freeways near Leeward Community College
Up to three eastbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway approaching the H-1/H-2 merge (Waiawa Interchange) will be closed overnight Sunday through Thursday. The state Department of Transportation is scheduled to close several westbound lanes of the H-1 Freeway overnight in that same vicinity next week as part of their freeway widening work.


H-1 FREEWAY WAIAWA INTERCHANGE

Sunday through Thursday between 9 p.m. and 4 a.m.
Farrington Highway eastbound on-ramp onto H-2 Freeway
The Farrington Highway eastbound loop on-ramp onto the H-2 Freeway will be closed overnight Sunday through Thursday.


WAIPAHU (FARRINGTON HIGHWAY)

Monday through Friday lane closures
Farrington Highway through Waipahu
The outside lanes at various locations along Farrington Highway in each direction will be closed weekdays for utility relocation work between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Leoku Street to Leokane Street
• The inside lanes of Farrington Highway in the same area are closed between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
• Left turns will be restricted in the westbound direction from Farrington Highway onto Leoole Street.
• One of the two eastbound left-turn lanes from Farrington Highway onto Leoku Street is temporarily closed 24/7 because of shaft and column work.

Leokane Street to Pupukahi Street
The westbound lanes of Farrington Highway are closed weeknights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Waipahu Depot Road to Mokuola Street
The outside lanes of Farrington Highway are closed weeknights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The inside lanes of Farrington Highway are closed weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Pupupuhi Street to Aniani Place
The outside lanes of Farrington Highway are closed weeknights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.


PEARL CITY (KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY)

24-hour lane closures
Waiawa Road to Acacia Road
One eastbound lane and one of the two eastbound left-turn lanes from Kamehameha Highway onto Acacia Road fronting Pearl Highlands Center are closed 24/7 through Summer 2015 for foundation and column work.
Eastbound U-turns will be allowed at the intersection during the work.
One westbound left-turn lane and the inside westbound lane of Kamehameha Highway near the Acacia Road intersection will also be closed 24/7 through Summer 2015.

24-hour lane closures
Acacia Road to Waimano Home Road
24/7 lane closures are in place along Kamehameha Highway between Acacia Road and Waimano Home Road for foundation and column work through late 2015:
• One eastbound left-turn lane from Kamehameha Highway onto Waimano Home Road and the inside eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway will be closed 24 hours a day.
• One westbound left-turn lane from Kamehameha Highway onto Lehua Avenue and the inside westbound lane of Kamehameha Highway will also be closed 24 hours a day as part of column foundation work. Westbound U-turns will still be allowed at the Waimano Home Road intersection.

Monday through Friday lane closures
Waiawa Road to Waimano Home Road
One westbound lane of Kamehameha Highway near Acacia Road is closed weeknights between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. with various left-turn pocket restrictions.
One eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway in the same vicinity is also closed weeknights between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
The intersection at Acacia Road is closed after 9 p.m.


AIEA/ALOHA STADIUM (KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY)

Monday through Friday lane closures
Kuleana Road to Kaonohi Street
A section of Hekaha Street mauka of Kamehameha Highway is closed weeknights between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. Traffic will be detoured to Kanuku Street and Lokowai Street. Business access to Waimalu Shopping Center and resident access to the area during the road closure times will be maintained by a special duty police officer.
Two westbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are closed weeknights between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. with various left-turn pocket restrictions. Two eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are also closed overnight between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
• Alternate lane closures will take place along Kaluamoi Place off Kamehameha Highway between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. weekdays. One lane will remain open at all times.
• Utility relocation work in area scheduled to run until mid-2015

Lipoa Place to Pali Momi Street
The right eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway near the Pearl Kai Shopping Center is closed 24/7 as part of roadway widening work through mid-2015.
• Two westbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are closed between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. with various left-turn pocket restrictions. Two eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are closed between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.

Pali Momi Street to Honomanu Street
Two westbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are closed between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. with various left-turn pocket restrictions. Two eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are closed between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.
• One eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway near McGrew Point is closed weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. through mid-2015 for sidewalk work.
• Intersection at Honomanu Street closed after 9 p.m.


AIEA/ALOHA STADIUM (KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY)

Monday through Friday lane closures
Near Aloha Stadium
• Two westbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are closed weeknights between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. with various left-turn pocket restrictions. Westbound traffic along Kamehameha Highway near Salt Lake Boulevard will be contraflowed to the eastbound lanes during those days and times.
• Two eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are closed between 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m.


PEARL HARBOR/AIRPORT

Monday through Friday lane closures
Kamehameha Highway from Arizona Street to Makalapa Road
• Two eastbound lanes of Kamehameha Highway are closed weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for utility work.

Kamehameha Highway and Makalapa Road/Radford Drive Intersection
• The right-turn lane from Kamehameha Highway onto Radford Drive is closed weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for utility work. Right turns will still be permitted at the intersection.

Kamehameha Highway from Makalapa Road to Center Drive
• Two westbound lanes and one eastbound lane of Kamehameha Highway are closed weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for utility work.

• The left-turn lane into Makalapa Gate will be contraflowed along the highway median.

Kamehameha Highway and Center Drive Intersection
• The right-turn lane from Center Drive (mauka) onto Kamehameha Highway is closed weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for utility work.
• The westbound bus stop at Kamehameha Highway and Center Drive is temporarily closed on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for utility work.
• The outside westbound lane of Mauka Frontage Road/Kamehameha Highway near Center Drive is closed weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for utility work.

• The outside westbound lane of Mauka Frontage Road/Kamehameha Highway near Center Drive is closed weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for utility work.

H-1 Freeway (Exit 15A) Westbound to Kamehameha Highway/Center Drive intersection
• The right lane of Exit 15A is closed weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. for utility work

Traffic Advisory:  Sewer work in Honolulu next week
 
 
KAPOLEI The Department of Environmental Services is alerting the public that traffic will be affected next week as crews rehabilitate wastewater pipes in and around the Honolulu area.  City crews and contractors will conduct sewer pipe work on the following dates and locations:
 
  • April 6-8 (Pipe Repair) - 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM:  Keawe St (between Pohukaina and Halekauwila).
  • April 6-10 (Pipe Repair) - 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM:  1404-1430 Kewalo St / 411-525 N. King St.
  • April 9-10 (Pipe Repair) - 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM:  Punchbowl Off-Ramp near the corner of Lusitana St and Punchbowl St (Note: There is no address at this location; the line segment runs along the side of 1519 Queen Emma St property along the Punchbowl off-ramp).
  • April 6 (Pipe Liner) - 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM: 1534 Enos Ln / 1628 California Ave.
  • April 7 (Pipe Liner) - 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM: 1580 Frear St / 104 Plum St.

Rail-related lane closures canceled tonight along Kamehameha Highway in Aiea, Pearl City


To help provide relief to westbound commuters during today’s afternoon commute, HART has canceled rail-related lane closures tonight along Kamehameha Highway in Aiea and Pearl City.

Working in conjunction with the state and city transportation departments, HART has canceled lane closures to provide drivers an alternate route while the Zipperlane situation is being resolved along the H-1 Freeway.

Work-related lane closures were also canceled earlier today along the westbound direction of Kamehameha Highway in the Aiea, Pearl City and Pearl Harbor areas to provide open access during the afternoon commute.

City construction projects halted to ease traffic during state ZipperLane repairs on H1 Freeway


HONOLULU – Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced that the following projects have been suspended in order to ease the commute for west side residents during the state ZipperLane repairs on the H-1 Freeway.

Board of Water Supply:
Canceled today’s lane closures for the water system improvement project on Kapiolani Boulevard in the McCully area.

Department of Design and Construction:
Suspended rehabilitation of Streets Unit 66. Contractor is currently on Kapahulu Ave.

Department of Environmental Services:
Canceled today’s lane closure on Kamehameha Highway fronting Blaisdell Park for the Waimalu Sewer project

Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transit (HART):
Today, there will be no rail-related closures on Kamehameha Highway in the westbound direction. Starting at 3 p.m., there will be no rail related lane closures on Kamehameha Highway in either direction.

Tonight’s Agricultural Lands (IAL) meeting postponed

In recognition of the traffic situation in West O‘ahu, The Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) has announced that tonight's Important Agricultural Lands (IAL) meeting in Kapolei has been postponed.  DPP will announce a new date soon.

Two other IAL meetings are being held as scheduled, and will run from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend and offer comments and recommendations. 

  • April 8, Mililani Middle School Cafeteria, 95-1140 Lehiwa Drive.
  • April 15, Windward Community College, Hale Ākoakoa Room 105, 45-720 Kea‘ahala Road.
